1984
Title Sequence
This project is a reimagined title sequence for the Korean remake of 1984, inspired by George Orwell’s dystopian novel. Using a combination of red Gothic-style 3D animation and dark techno music by Gesaffelstein, the sequence explores themes of surveillance, censorship, and control. Key visual elements—such as the ever-watchful eye of Big Brother, ominous cityscapes, and the Party’s slogans—are designed to evoke the oppressive atmosphere of Orwell’s world. The piece visually interprets core themes of 1984, including totalitarianism, truth manipulation, and the pervasive fear of an all-seeing regime.
Constructing Surveillance:
This title sequence unfolds from the perspective of Winston, the protagonist of 1984, as he documents his thoughts in his diary. Living under an oppressive regime, Winston grapples with growing doubts about the Party and his reality.
As the sequence progresses, his writings—initially a reflection of his inner resistance—are systematically censored, erased, and distorted, ultimately reshaped to align with Party propaganda.
This transformation visually conveys the power of totalitarian control, illustrating how individual thought is gradually dismantled and rewritten within an authoritarian society.

Silent Resistance:
A solitary sphere rolling through grotesque architectural structures is a metaphor for the individual—like Winston—navigating life under an oppressive totalitarian regime. The surreal environment, composed of distorted and overwhelming forms, reflects such a society's unnatural and disorienting nature.
As the sphere moves through narrow passages and open voids, it carefully avoids harsh surveillance lights, visually echoing the paranoia and constant scrutiny faced by those who stray from the Party’s ideology. Through this visual narrative, the sequence explores themes of isolation, control, and the struggle to maintain individuality within a system designed to erase it.

Procedural study
I utilized Cinema 4D’s procedural tools to generate rocks with diverse materials, which serve as the primary visual elements of the piece.
Each uniquely shaped rock contributes to the composition’s depth and realism, reinforcing the stark and oppressive atmosphere central to 1984.

Lighting
Lighting played a crucial role in shaping the visual tone. Through extensive testing, the optimal combination of lens translucency and light direction was determined to subtly highlight the structures while maintaining an immersive ambiance.
This deliberate orchestration of lighting enhances the work’s atmospheric depth, aligning with the dystopian themes of Orwell’s world.
